‘Tis the season - for travel! Kids are out of school, and it's time for summer fun. To help get you in the spirit of travel-season, we’ve come up with six summer travel snack tips to help you pack those bags full of nutritious snacks. Whether it’s for a long flight, roadtrip, backpacking or a camping trip, we’ve got you covered.
Protein Meat Sticks
Of course, as Apex Protein Snacks, we have to start with meat snacks right? Meat snacks are literally the most important part of any trip… but we might be biased.
When it comes to snacks, it’s important to pack not just tastefully, but nutritionally as well. That’s where snacks that are packed with high-protein come in. We prefer the Apex Meat Sticks for travel convenience. Easily packed and individually wrapped, they hardly take up any space, but pack a punch of flavor. We like to mix it up and make sure we’ve got several Meat Stick flavors on hand!
Nuts & Beans
You can never go wrong with a bag of pistachios, cashews, dry roasted macadamias, or even trail mix for sustained fuel and satiation. Some other similar high-protein nutritionally rich snacks could be roasted chickpea snacks, or pickled lupini beans, which are a great high-protein companion to your Meat Sticks.
Fruit - Dried & Fresh
Fruit leather, trail mix, or dried fruit strips like mango or banana chips go a long way. These will provide some alternative flavor and a natural energy boost, and are rich in antioxidants, fiber, and other vitamins/minerals.
Depending on the trip you’re taking, duration, destination, etc., you may even be able to pack some fresh fruit – oranges, apples, and bananas tend to be the most shelf-stable options for packing!
Add Some Crunch
Looking for a crunch? Pack some chips that are not only tasty, but have added nutritional content, like Quest protein chips or Hippeas. Dried seaweed snacks or granola are also great crunchy snacks to pack.
Let’s not forget the importance of your favorite classic granola bar or protein bars to take on a trip as well, such as Clif Bars, Kind Bars, Mezcla Bars, etc.
Charcuterie On The Go
Who doesn’t love a bit of cheese with their meat sticks? It’s like a charcuterie board on the go! Of course, cheese can be perishable, so you’ll likely want it to be one of the first things you eat on your trip, or find a cheese stick brand that boasts shelf-stability such as Wisconsin Cheese Company.
Get some added omegas and extra minerals with your protein snacks when you pack some Tuna Packets for a savory kick. Great to add with some crackers (adding to that charcuterie feel) or even just by the forkful. Yum!
Electrolytes & Fresh Water
I don’t think we have to go into the specifics of why fresh water is so important to have, but, we do have an awesome suggestion for you. Especially those of you who will be backpacking or camping this summer. Having a way to filter your water is vital to any outdoor adventure. Some people prefer a filter bottle, or tablets to add to your water, but have you ever tried a filter straw? You will now!
Last but not least, don’t forget to pack your favorite electrolyte packets to help keep you hydrated and energized all trip long!
We hope these summer travel snack tips with Apex help make your packing easier for all your summer trips – have so much fun out there and stay safe!
